It All Started When…

a neighbor cornrowed my hair for the first time. It was my earliest memory of feeling beautiful. That revelation fostered the attachment I have to hair and its power.

I was the family hairdresser by age 9 and the community, "kitchen beautician" by age 14. While hair was always a part of my life, I spent a few years as a seventh and eighth-grade math teacher — providing a love for education through a pedagogy lens. Returning to my first love as a hair care professional, I worked my way up credible spaces such as Arrojo Studio. There I became a senior hair cutter in precision haircutting for six years while advancing my skills in textured hair. Drawing from my earliest hairdressing days to my current epiphanies and expertise,  I strive to educate others about the fascinating range and depth of all hair textures.

Formally, Aveda’s Global Artistic Director of Texture and in collaboration with the brand for nearly a decade accomplished product development and launches that made their offerings more equitable, built education programs for in salon and schools that embraced diversity and had direct involvement in changing laws and requirements to advocate for more inclusivity within the beauty and cosmetology school spaces. Now, in wanting to create more ease for black and brown folks touching the industry of beauty, Im excited for what’s next…

"Let's do something with that hair!"
